Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems, or ADAS, enable a vehicle to react to its surroundings and warn the driver of potential hazards. For years, vehicles have become enhanced with important safety equipment such as sensors and/or cameras to aid drivers in reducing accidents like rear/front camera systems, lane-assist or blind spot monitoring.
If you have a vehicle that is five years old you probably have some form of ADAS on it, if you have a newer vehicle then you probably have many ADAS safety systems on board. Advanced Drivers Assistance Systems have proven to be lifesaving devices and are continuing to be adapted by all manufactures. ADAS can be very complicated and extremely difficult to diagnose and repair without very accurate equipment, specifically trained technicians access to OEM Software and a specifically built to Manufactures standards calibration building.
ADAS is an electronic system that helps with driving and parking functions in modern vehicles, increasing all-around safety. They quickly detect and respond to nearby obstacles or driver errors using sensors and cameras all over the vehicle.

WHEN DO I NEED AN ADAS CALIBRATION?
ADAS Sensor Calibration is required anytime a sensor's aiming is altered in any way. Collisions, no matter how severe, are a major cause of sensors being disturbed. Even standard automotive services such as windshield replacements, suspension repairs, or wheel alignment can cause a vehicle to need a recalibration.
If you're unsure if a vehicle needs to be scanned and calibrated, give us a call and we can answer any questions or concerns you might have.
After Any Collision
This is a REQUIREMENT and not a recommendation, if your insurance company refuses to re calibrate your vehicle, please let us call your adjuster for you. Many times the insurance companies don't understand which procedures are required.
After Windshield Replacement
For safety and peace of mind, you should always have your windshield re-calibrated after every windshield repair and replacement.
360 Around View Cameras
If your 360 cameras are out of sync your images will not line up on screen with seamless clarity. Your backup sensors and trailer towing sensors will not be synchronized. This is especially true on trucks and vans.
After Bumper Repair/ Replacement
Even the slightest hit on bumper cover may alter your radar or thermal sensors. The most troubling are the Collision Avoidance and Adaptive Cruise Control Systems.
After Wheel Alignment
Most Manufactures recommend recalibration after a 4 wheel alignment is performed. The centerline on the vehicle known as the Thrust Angle is what all the ADAS sensors are calibrated to.
THE PROBLEM
Vehicles have features that incorporate ADAS technology. You might be surprised to see exactly how many of these features are hiding in a car’s design. The real impact for independent auto repair and collision repair shops comes with fixing ADAS features. Some of the high-end tech requires special knowledge and training. Instead of building out a whole team to handle ADAS repairs, or turning down repair jobs, you can lean on 106St Tire & Wheel.
THE SOLUTION
Competitive shops are paying close attention to ADAS, and likely have some concern about how it will impact their business. Repair cycle time delays can impact your ratings with insurance companies. Equipment and training cost a fortune. But the worry stops with With our help, you can increase your shop’s profit on every vehicle you service.

Increasing numbers of new cars are equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Some of the more common ones include:
Forward collision warning
Automatic emergency braking
Adaptive cruise control
Lane departure warning
Lane keeping assist
Blind spot monitoring
Rear cross traffic alert
Parking assist/self-parking
Adaptive headlights that steer with the vehicle
Automatic headlight high-beam activation and dimming
When our experts repair your vehicle, the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) need to be calibrated to the original manufacturer specifications to ensure they are operating properly. To calibrate ADAS to OE specifications, certain years, makes, and models require proper weight distribution, including having a full tank of fuel. If your vehicle and repair require additional fuel to be added, you will be responsible for the added cost.
